Who can submit?

Any Norwell High School student!!

 

What Can I Submit?

  • short stories and flash fiction

  • 2D art and design (illustrations/paintings with any 2D media, including digital art and mixed media)

  • photography

  • photographs of 3D artwork 

  • poetry

  • creative essays

  • song lyrics

  • play scripts

Important Note: We try to publish at least one work from every submitter on our website, but we can only publish a limited number of works in our print magazine. Therefore, your work may not be chosen for the print edition, but we will still post it on our website!

 

Submission Constraints

You may submit multiple pieces; however, only 2-3 pieces may be chosen for publication.

 

Writing

  • Word, Pages, or Google Doc (not pdf or image)

  • To be considered for print publication, must be under 3 pages when single spaced

  • Please use asterisks (*) to censor profanity

  • Indicate any special formatting (italics, indents, quotes, etc. will be published exactly as they are in your submission)

Visual Arts

  • High resolution image

Submissions should be:

  • finished pieces (of presentable quality)

  • ORIGINAL, meaning created by the submitter with no copyright infringement or plagiarism

  • Titled! Please include a title for both written and visual works!

Content Restrictions

​Submissions are judged independent of content, meaning that we will not discriminate against work based on personal feelings about the topic.  However, The Halyard is a school publication, so please be conscientious and do not submit overly explicit content.  If you have any questions about your work, please email us!
